Inverleven Premier Cask
This site was used to produce grain and single malt whisky. Inverleven was never botteled, as a distillery botteling, only the independent bottelers botteled it. There was another single malt produced here: Lomond, but from this single malt, just one cask was botteled ever as far as I know.
It was a very sad site, to see how heritage is lost. It was the second one that day, because before this I visited the former site of Littlemill distillery in Bowling.
Double Pleasure
From the box -
Colour - Bright gold. (A gentle haze may appear when water is added.)
The nose - A fresh summer-live medley of floral and sweet spice aromas enhanced by gentle notes of toasted oak.
The taste - Smooth and silky with the sweetness of soft fruits and honeyed flowers balanced by a dry, oak finish of considerable length with notes of ginger and hazelnuts.
*****
From me -
Colour - could not agree more. It got even brighter once poured.
Diluted - mine did not haze over at all.
The nose - Floral it was but I did not get the spice. At cask strength it was more about that alcohol burn from all those vapors. (To be expected from something bottled at 57.6 abv.)
Diluted - started to find the spice notes, maybe with more water I would have found the toasted oak too but I do not like to dilute that much.
The taste - most excellent even at full strength. I really wish a I had good wine fridge for bottles like this as I think just being at a slight chill would do it more justice than adding cold water. Regardless, it is smooth and the honey sweetness is enjoyable.
Diluted - killed that alochol pepper bite enough to make it smoother and allow the honey sweet to come out a bit more. Nutty yes but not hazelnut (at least to me)
Because I'm a lucky fellow and presenting a lot of Scotch during my presentation. I was in the opportunity to taste many different Scotch expressions. I can come up with only one bad dram, an Edradour finished in a Tokay cask, but remember, that's very personal, you will probably like it!
A 26 year old Port Ellen from the Old Malt Cask series. Do I have to say more?
